Them Dirty Shrikes- NOVEMBER

Them Dirty Shrikes, a four-piece from Pretoria, have released a brand-new track called November. They describe themselves as an alternative rock band with blues and folk influences and were formed in 2016. They haven’t been around that long, but they are already one of the 012’s favourite bands and it has been great seeing them grow so quickly over the past few years. They’re hard to pinpoint or box into one genre, but that is what makes them such a diverse group, and this is also what enables them to be one step ahead of us at all times. Although they are consistent, they never dabble in the same thing twice. Every song is distinct, and every show is something else.

So, Them Dirty Shrikes recently released their new track, November, and from what I could tell by their social media the song did blow up quite a bit. Now, we’re no stranger to the bands previous successes. Earlier this year they dropped Trip & Fall on us and man, it almost feels like these people love overwhelming us. In the best way possible.

Those who are familiar with TDS also know that the band has consistently given us amazing live shows and their stage vibes are always extremely eclectic. Soné Briel is one of the strongest vocalists in the scene right now and her stage presence is not only hypnotizing, but she knows how to work her crowd. The band shows no lack of chemistry amongst the members and at times it can be hard to choose a point of focus because you want to look at every member at the same time. These cats are natural performers and you should not expect any motionless standing while watching one of their sets.

You can expect a random surge of fuzz, just the right amount, that makes November so electrifying but very well structured. The balance that they struck with this track is almost eerie because it is still chaotically beautifu, l but maintains a very clean, polished sound. Lyrically they took the catchier route with relatable, yet edgy content and kept it simple but not dumb. If this track is just a taste of what’s to come in 2020 then we will gladly bite off more than we can chew.
November is out now on all major platforms.
