Who is Ty Segall ? (Warning may contain neck chopping)
Now I hope you have heard this name before. No, he is not related
to the famous Steven, surname spelled differently, that delivers
neck chops making Austin Powers Judo Chop look like a bitch slap. However, he does
deliver neck chops to your ears through the power of fuzz.
Ty Segall grew
up in San Francisco, saved by the escapism of music by his existential drinking
crisis by the age of eighteen. This guy got a degree in media studies at the
University of San Francisco and thereafter worked eight months constructing
grow boxes for cannabis plants. I have a theory that people had to test these
boxes to see if they actually cultivated decent cannabis. Ty then focused his
entire energy on music.
You would think this guy had a low key band
in the beginning and would play many underground scenes in the local bay area. However, he neck chopped his way into the scene and is a force not to be dealt with. There are many links below you can watch just to show how underrated this guy
is in his early years.Ty befriended a guy named John Dwyer, of Thee Oh Sees, no big deal.
These guys had a possibility of
starting a band stated by Larry Hardy, creator of In the Red Records. Just imagine John Dwyer and Ty Segall on a stage.
*Neck Chopping Intensifies*
Should you be interested in furthering the
background and life of Ty and his creations feel free to look it up on Wikipedia.
Had I mentioned does he not only have his solo career but he plays in numerous
other bands, either on the drums or just randomly having collaboration with
fellow musicians.
Enamoured by this music I could not
recommend anything at the moment any more if you want to juice up that playlist of
yours. All things considered I should quote a very dear friend of mine,
"Never trust people who play more than 2 instruments like a god." I
first discovered this band called "Fuzz" back in the day, recommended
by a stoned longboarding friend
of mine. "What's in my head" - made me question what actually was in
my head at the time I listened it. There is this one part in the song before a
massive drop, a sort of a high pitched squeal sound made by the guitar, giving
you the illusion that which your head consists of has finally snapped.
GØGGS, The Perverts, Broken Bat, these are just
some of the ten plus band this guy features in. Here I am struggling to get out
of bed every morning.
After starting a radio on Google Play with
his song "Feel" from his album Manipulator. I would constantly switch
tabs to see the song and artist playing. I could constantly hear Ty's voice and
style whether it would have been on the drums from Fuzz or neck chopping his
signature moves on the guitar and vocals. I discovered this guy is some sort of
god.
Look I will stop putting this guy on a
pedestal for he may disappoint you. As a lover of all that is underground music
that neck chopped its way to become famous amongst us aliens worldwide, there
is some admiration and appreciation that has to be given to this man. If you do
not know where to start getting your neck chopped start with "Caesar"
from his album Melted.
