Andi and Trev

Whenever it's about this time of the year you take some time to reflect back on the months that passed and an internal diatribe starts to occur. Bloody hell ladies and germs what is going on with 2019?

I struggle to keep track of all the releases. You'd think with all the new hands on deck we at this collection would be able to keep up. Let me tell you something it's not that easy. The artists are out for blood and our ears are not prepared.

Have you heard the news?

Caution Boy released a banger of an album recently. I remember seeing Andi doing a solo set at a gig way back at New Moon Pub. Rest in pieces your beautiful venue. Now for those of you who don't know New Moon has hosted some very familiar faces we see in our scene today.

Petition to raise Archie's cymbals even higher TBA soon

Back to the subject at hand. Time to put down your pencils and pay attention. Class is officially in session.

Music is perceived differently for numerous people. Caution Boy makes me reminisce about grunge and getting wrecked at Empire shows when I was just realised how thankful we should be for the scene that exists. Not many bands send you on that trip. Their new album is difficult to describe. It eats at you leaving your mind drooling for that next fix until you come to the end where you just say fuck it and put the album on repeat.

If you're new to Caution Boy don't worry. They'll be gentle. Start off with Spastic Plastic. Hats off to Mr Cappo for all his hard work. The moot work ethic really puts other local acts to shame. Look at the Bandcamp of Make-Overs and try to accept that amount of material from just 2 people. Now look at Caution Boy's Bandcamp and try to accept the fact that 90‰ of that baby is all thanks to Andi.

When he told me he was in the process of making Caution Boy a full band I must admit that I was a bit sceptical. How can you absorb and understand, not to mention recreate, this music from this crazy madlad?

A solid drum and bass combo that matches and trumps many 3 piece lineups to date, that's your missing ingredient. Being a trio always comes down to a basic blueprint. You often see members symbiotically switching between themselves. Slight nods with all the bells and whistles. I feel a successful trio exists because of that. Each member has a special relationship with each of their peers and that is the key.

Now back to 2019, the 9th studio album Vice Versa. Hit up track 9 "Manic Quinn" if you like getting thrown in the deep end by a cold father figure. Don't stop treading. I'm not going to go into super detail and describe because it is not going to serve a purpose. This is just my own opinion but if you like Foo Fighters/Grungey dark stuff you will love Caution Boy.

So your homework is to go and listen to that gem until your ears start begging you to stop. Class dismissed.
