The Altar Boys

It was at Thrashers Skate Park, a very underrated live scene venue that kicked and screamed the second half of 2018.

I believe we just arrived when The Tazers opened with an amazing psychedelic set oozing boogy, rocking your core soul. The day was really sunny and I had made a few beer runs to the upstairs bar. The stage was located at in the middle far end from the entrance. Alas, the sun came tumbling down on our vitamin D lacking skins. After The Tazers finished surging high-voltage self-defense weapons through their instruments and playing in the stage like a new pair of shoes it was time for the band from Cape Town.

The lead singer played with this skateboard with all his pedals fixed to the back. Nobody could withstand the sunny heat in front of the stage as it was just passed midday. This one hippy lady went to the front as they opened with their first song. She just danced and got into it. There they were, the nuns with a hippy lady grooving to their punky rock all the way from Cape Town. Not to long everybody joined in and danced the set away.

A year or somewhat later I went to my first Thrashers gig in a while. Hosted by Uncle Mothers, be sure to go give them a like and a follow. They host the best gigs, one for JHB and then usually one in PTA.

The Runaway Nuns released an EP on November 3rd 2016 on bandcamp, I highly recommend you go give them a listen. I cannot emphasise enough how crazy these guys are on stage. Just at the start of November in 2018 at Endless Daze the tambourine player cleared a grand canyon jump and crowd surfed giving an ode to their genre, garage punk with psychedelic undertones. 2018 has been filled with some gifts from the nuns.

Alright Now is a single released from their 2019 Debut Album, which we are amped and yet to hear. Now this music video you should definitely give look see on the tube. I keep wondering how much money they had in the budget for paint and booze. None the less it is brilliant piece of art that just strengthens why these guys are just one of our country's hottest shit out there.

The Nuns kept surprising these past few years and a must see when they stomp their local grounds in good old CPT. I don't know what these nuns are running away from, all I can say is join them and run as fast as you can.

Be sure to give them a look at 70's fest
